Opening Day

Welcome back and bring on spring

Foolish for Fairies with HVCA

Join us for a fairy tea party while learning how to make a fairy lantern. Come dressed in your favorite fairy attire if you would like. Foolish for Fairies, held on April Fool’s Day, is a Huron Valley Council for the Arts (HVCA) KIDS Club meeting that will be held at Bogie Lake Greenhouse. Free for kids 11 and under. Call Huron Valley Council for the Arts at 248-889-8660 to reserve your spot.

Fairy Gardening Comes to Life

Join us for an afternoon of connecting fantasy to our everyday lives in this fairy gardening presentation by Patty Watkins. The seminar will be based on the inspiring writings of the Flower Fairy books and "true to nature" paintings by Cicely Mary Barker. With inspiration from Cicely Mary Barker, Patty will give you tips on creating your own fairy gardens such as plants to use, garden care, and design.

After our discussion, class attendees can create their own fairy garden. Feel free to bring your own supplies or receive 15% off anything purchased at Bogie Lake for use in your fairy garden. All ages are invited to this presentation. We encourage you to come dressed in fairy costumes if desired.

Pollinator Gardens // Claire Lannoye-Hall, Curator of Education from the Detroit Zoological Society

Pollinators are in trouble. They are vital to our ecosystem, responsible for producing seeds and fruits on the clear majority of plants, but are struggling due to lack of host plants, habitat fragmentation, and pesticides. Creating pollinator gardens will help bring these important creatures back from the brink of an uncertain future. This class will be taught by Claire Lannoye-Hall, Curator of Education at the Detroit Zoological Society.

Bonsai Demonstration // Kurtis Smith from The Flower Market in Dundee, Michigan

Kurt Smith, owner of The Flower Market, Michigan's largest bonsai nursery, will be talking about how to care for and grow bonsai. Kurt will conduct a demonstration and show the different varieties used in bonsai. Create your own bonsai after the class with our supplies or bring your own. Black Sheep Weavers Fiber Guild Art Sale

Come see the Black Sheep Weavers "Fibers & Flowers Sale" at Bogie Lake Greenhouse! Shop a variety of homemade art as a gift for moms, grads, and other special people. Various free demonstrations will be conducted between 10am and 1pm on Saturday and Sunday. The members have been very busy creating beautiful fiber art for this special event. Basic Container Gardening

Do you have a difficult location at your house or business where you would like to put a container garden? We will try to help you through your specific requirements. General topics of discussion will include extreme weather, light, water and heat conditions and why certain plants do not always work for everyone. Come with questions or issues you’ve had in the past! Create your own container after the class with our supplies or bring your container from home. All plants, containers, supplies purchased during the class will be 15% off.

Advanced Container Gardening

Patty Watkins, owner of Bogie Lake Greenhouses, will focus on the basics of container gardening during this class. She will discuss water needs, light requirements, design and plant choice to help you create the best container garden. New 2017 varieties will also be introduced. Open House // Celebrating 30 Years

Time to celebrate Happy 30th to Bogie Lake Greenhouse! Displays and demonstrations throughout the greenhouse will highlight the past and how it has influenced our present production at Bogie Lake Greenhouse. Professionals in the horticultural industry will be available to answer specific questions you may have about your own landscape, pot design, tree care, and other related product information.

Arts & Green Holiday Market

Art will be displayed, demonstrated, and sold. Music by Tuba Christmas and holiday choirs. Food from local restaurants. Winter Container Gardening Workshop held inside Bogie Lake Greenhouses in partnership with Huron Valley Council for the Arts!
